Price
24" Antique papier mache shoulderhead doll, unmarked,
from Germany. Probably made by Andreas Voit. She has inset black pupiless
eyes, molded painted black short hairdo (some paint gone), and closed
mouth. She has her original cloth body, with long leather arms, and
individual stitched fingers. She is wearing her original calico cotton
print dress, long bloomers, and red leather tie shoes. (She has the usual
wear of a doll over 150 years old!) No repairs, no repaint. Circa 1840

11" Antique papier mache Milliners Model
doll, with papier mache shoulderhead, white kid leather body, and wooden
lower arms, and wooden lower legs, with green painted shoes. She has painted
features, black painted hair, with long side curls, and a bun caught in back
in a loop design. There is some cracking and paint damage to her head. She
was purchased from an estate in Monson, Massachusetts, and was in the family
for nearly 200 years. Her clothing is original, and she is wearing a
delicate calico dress, and layers of underclothing. Circa 1840
14" German paper mache "Patent Washable"
shoulderhead, with inset blue glass eyes, painted upper and lower lashes,
and a closed mouth. Unmarked. She has her original blonde hair, cloth body,
and mache lower arms and legs. All original (from the family) in her dress,
bonnet, sweater, and paper shoes. Circa 1890
33" Blonde Greiner paper
mache shoulderhead, marked on the back with a paper label: Greiner's Patent
Doll Heads No 11 Pat Mar 30 ' 58 Ext ' 72. Made in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, she is an early American made paper mache doll. She has
painted molded blonde hair, painted blue eyes, red lips, pale eye brows, and
is on her original cloth body, with leather hands, cloth striped socks, and
replaced antique leather boots, sewed onto her lower legs. Her head has not
been repainted except the tip of her nose, which has been touched up lightly
(with water soluable paint). There are a few surface paint flakes, and
knicks from age. Her leather arms, and hands have been repaired at
the fingers. She is wearing her original cotton underear, and original
calico print cotton dress, with rugffle trim, and buttons down the front.
the dress is fragile, but clean. An unusual size Greiner to find, with
nicely molded hairstyle, and original clothing. Circa 1872

Mache shoulderhead doll, with molded, painted features, and hair, and molded
painted white snood, with separate attached fur (over cardboard) hat. She is
on a cloth milliners-type body, with wooden lower limbs. Representing a
Welsh lady, her molded paper mache snood is unusual, her antique clothing is
original. >From the estate collection of Maurine Popp. Circa 1850

19" German shoulderhead blonde paper mache
Sonneberg-type doll, with cloth body, and antique clothing. Unmarked. Circa
1880
7" German paper mache
doll, sometimes called a "Milliners Model". She has a paper mache
shoulderhead, white kid body, and wooden extremities. Her eyes are painted
blue, and her hair
is painted black. The hairdo has a centerpart, braided hair, looped in back to a bun, with
two sausage curls framing her face. The clothing is wool, and cotton, all original. Circa
1840. Provenance: This doll belonged to Mildred Bartlet, from Lynn,
Massachusetts. Purchased from her descendants.
